The African Skye Pipe Band recently participated in the Jacaranda Pops at the Kloofendal Amphitheatre in Roodepoort - see story below.

On Saturday night, 10th December 2011 at 19h30, highlights from this event shall be broadcast on the kykNET television channel.

African Skye A appoints new Pipe Major

The African Skye A Pipe Band has appointed Damien Pitman as their new pipe major.

Damien has risen through the ranks of the African Skye organisation, over the years, having originally started off as a learner piper in the Jeppe Pipe Band.

The African Skye organisation wishes Damien well in his new role and looks forward to the new and exciting times ahead.

Seán Maher heads for Cape Town

The Pipe Major of the African Skye A Pipe Band, Seán Maher, will be heading off to Cape Town at the end of the year as a result of a career promotion.

Seán was a founder member of the African Skye Pipe Band and has served the band with distinction over the years. A top solo competitor, Seán has also led the African Skye A Pipe Band to new heights in the Grade 2 arena.

Seán's son, Damian, is also a piper with the Band, having competed with the African Skye B Pipe Band this last season. A rising star on the solo piping circuit, Damian had just been promoted to the African Skye A Pipe Band for the 2012 season when he got the news that the family was relocating to Cape Town.

Seán Maher debuts his Pick the Six Prize

In the Pick the Six winners competition run by pipes|drums in August this year, Seán Maher, the Pipe Major of the African Skye A Pipe Band, was the winner of a full set of Hardie bagpipes.

Pictured left, is Seán debuting his new pipes at a recent parade, with the African Skye Pipe Band, at the Randburg Police Station Fun Day on the 8th October 2011.

African Skye at the Jacaranda Pops

On Saturday, 22nd October 2011, the African Skye Pipe Band participated, along with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, in the Jacaranda Pops at Kloofendal Amphitheatre in Roodepoort. For more pictures of the event, click here.

Skye Bass Sections win De La Salle

Both the African Skye A and African Skye B bass sections won their respective competitions in Grades 2 and 3 at the De La Salle Highland Gathering, which took place at De La Salle Holy Cross College, on Saturday, 28th May 2011.

Leading Drummers in charge at Skye Solos

Steven St Clair-Hall (pictured left), Leading Drummer of the African Skye A Pipe Band, won the Open Snare Drumming at the African Skye Solo Piping and Drumming Championships at Jeppe High School for Girls on Saturday, 5th March 2011.

Runner-up was, Dave Jeffrey (pictured left), Leading Drummer of the African Skye B Pipe Band.

Bronwyn Costine (pictured left), a tenor drummer with the African Skye A Pipe Band, was the Open Tenor Drumming Champion.

Damian Maher (pictured left), a piper with the African Skye B Pipe Band, was the Junior Piping Champion for the second weekend in a row (see story below).

Dominique Kerkhove (pictured right), a tenor drummer with the African Skye B Pipe Band, won the Novice March in Snare Drumming.

Damian triumphant at the Sandy Mallen

Damian Maher (pictured left), a piper with the African Skye B Pipe Band, emerged as the Junior Champion at the Sandy Mallen Memorial Solo Piping Competition at King Edward VII School on Saturday, 26th February 2011.

His dad, Seán Maher, the Pipe Major of the African Skye A Pipe Band, finished second in the Open section.

African Skye pipers to test their mettle at the Sandy Mallen

The Scottish Piping Society of the Witwatersrand will be hosting the Sandy Mallen Memorial Solo Piping Competition at King Edward VII School on Saturday afternoon, 26 February 2011. Pipers from the African Skye Pipe Band will be competing on the day.
