Introduction
Born on the 31 December 1957, Steve, fondly known as 'Uncle Buc', began his drumming career, under the tuition of Andre Parker, when he was 16 years old. Steve was a founder member of the African Skye Pipe Band and was a Snare Drummer in the Band until his retirement from pipe bands on the 5 December 2009.
The African Skye Pipe Band
• January 1998
Steve was one of the members of the Witwatersrand Rifles Pipe Band who, on the 24 September 1997, left to form a private band. This private band was officially established in January 1998 as the African Skye Pipe Band.
• June 2003
Due to the varying standards of the players in the Band and, the number of players, a decision was taken in June 2003 to split the African Skye Pipe Band into an 'A Band' and a 'B Band' for competition purposes. Steve played in the A Band from then until his retirement.
• 5 December 2009
Steve played his last parade with the African Skye Pipe Band on the 5 December 2009 and then officially retired from pipe bands.

• 1975 : Cosy Corner Pipes and Drums
In 1975, Steve joined the Cosy Corner Pipes and Drums and played under Leading Drummer Allan McLuckie.
• January 1977 - September 1997 : Witwatersrand Rifles Pipe Band
In January 1977, Steve joined the Witwatersrand Rifles Pipe Band, under the leadership of Pipe Major Andy Forrett, and played under Leading Drummer Rodger Metelerkamp. During his time with this band, Steve also served under Pipe Major Les Waskis (his uncle), Pipe Major Rory Bellingan and, Leading Drummer Steven St Clair-Hall. Steve also served as Leading Drummer on occasion and, particularly, when the Band was between leading drummers in 1991.

• September 1991 - December 2009 : Initially as Leading Drummer of the Witwatersrand Rifles Pipe Band, and then, as Leading Drummer of the African Skye Pipe Band, Steven St Clair-Hall acted as Uncle Buc's tutor, on and off over the years, until Uncle Buc's eventual retirement in December 2009.
